Animal Crossing: New Horizons (あつまれ どうぶつの森 Atsumare Doubutsu no Mori, lit. Animal Forest: Gather), known as Animal Forest: Gather Together (모여봐요 동물의 숲, Moyeobwayo Dongmul-Ui Sup) in South Korea and Let's Gather! Animal Forest Friend Hub (集合啦！动物森友会/集合啦！動物森友會, Jíhé la! Dòngwù sēnyǒu huì) in China and Hong Kong, is a life simulation game released in 2020 for the Nintendo Switch. As opposed to the previous entries, the player lives on a deserted island that can be developed into a town-like community over time.
The game received a paid expansion called Happy Home Paradise. In January 2026, it received a Nintendo Switch 2 edition alongside a free update.
Functionality[]
Similar to the Welcome amiibo update of Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is compatible with all Animal Crossing amiibo figures and cards. Scanning a figure or card will allow the player to invite the villager to their campsite and eventually move to their island. The scanned villager can also be invited for photos at Photopia and a cup of coffee at the Roost. The player will also be rewarded of a special poster of the villager. In Happy Home Paradise, the player can invite the scanned villager to design their vacation home.
As of the January 2026 update, amiibo from the Legend of Zelda and Splatoon series can invite the following special villagers: Tulin, Mineru, Cece, and Viché.
